If you’re not white then you’re not right. This seems to be the new theme of America today especially during the Trump administration. Only it’s not new to America. We just celebrated Juneteenth on the 19th of June. A day that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas, and more generally the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans throughout the former Confederacy of the southern United States.
Slavery! We all remember that right? Where mothers and fathers had their children taken away from them and sold to the highest bidder? Sound familiar? They say history repeats itself! Well I see a history of privileged white men doing whatever they want to whomever they feel is inferior to them. As we speak there are children being taken from their parents and put on planes to different states. There are children crying out as they wonder what’s going on. There’s adults and children being sent to detention centers. It’s cruel, it’s despicable, and it’s disturbing. It’s also America’s history! I’m appalled to see how this country is continuously going backwards. There is no room for growth as long as we have people like Donald Trump and his supporters. There is no peace as long as racism continues to thrive in our Country. If you’re black or brown you belong in a cage or on the ground doing their dirty work!
The truth hurts! This post runs deep but not as deep as hearing the cries of immigrant children who are taken away from their parents, nursing babies snatched off their mom’s breast, and teenagers being shipped away with no idea if they will ever see their parents again. Young girls are forced to grow up and take care of babies they don’t know just so that the young children have clean diapers or food in their stomachs. It’s sick and it’s what’s happening in our world today. Seeing children locked in cages when there are people who treat their animals better is nonetheless cruelty.
On the contrary just like back when there was slavery you had many people who helped runaway slaves and felt that slavery was an injustice. There have been protest, funds raised, and other means of aid being brought to those in need of immediate help! Trump’s executive order does nothing when he has already started a crisis. It does not help those who are already separated from their children and it does not stop people from being put in cages and detention centers. What it does is make us as a nation realize that freedom is not really free. It will always come at a price and this instance that price is children. Is this what he means by make America great again?
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea
