Columbus — Gov. Mike DeWine has named Stephanie McCloud to be the next Director of the Ohio Department of Health.
NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Executive Director Kellie Copeland said: “In picking Stephanie McCloud to lead the Ohio Department of Health, Governor DeWine has appeased anti-abortion zealots. McCloud has long been an opponent of abortion access and was clearly chosen as part of the ongoing effort to misuse this agency to deny Ohioans access to abortion care. Our state is facing its highest number of COVID-19 infections; Black Ohioans and other people of color are being hardest hit. DeWine has abandoned his sacred responsibility to put the health and safety of Ohioans over his personal agenda to eliminate abortion access in our state. Health care should never be politicized like this, especially during a pandemic.”
