Press Release: Health Committee Hears Biased Testimony

Columbus — The Ohio House Committee on Health, Human Services, and Medicaid heard proponent testimony on the six-week abortion ban, Senate Bill 23.

NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Executive Director Kellie Copeland said: “Today in testimony witness after witness stood before the committee and tried to lay out their reasons for why abortion should be banned as early as six weeks into pregnancy. Witness after witness stated their personal opinions on the subject. But what was made clear in this hearing, and in all the hearings before this one, is that our lives are complicated and no mandate from the government will change that reality. Once a woman has made the decision to end her pregnancy, she must be able to access safe, legal abortion care in her local community. The Ohio Legislature should stop inserting themselves into the personal medical decisions of Ohioans—their interference is not needed or wanted. Ohio politicians should stop criminalizing abortion care, and get busy passing paid maternity leave, and expanding access to quality affordable health care.”
