Press Release: Statement on testimony from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford

Columbus — Following the conclusion of today’s hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Executive Director Kellie Copeland released the following statement:

“First, I want to say that I know the testimony today has been difficult for those of us who have experienced sexual assault or harassment. Please call 844-OHIO-HELP if you need help coping. Second, I want to thank Dr. Christine Blasey Ford for her testimony. It took a lot of courage for her to come forward, and to appear before the U.S. Senate today. Her testimony wasn’t a political act, it was a patriotic one, and I believe her.

“Judge Brett Kavanaugh was disqualified even before Dr. Blasey Ford’s credible allegations, because he lied under oath, over and over to the Senate Judiciary committee about everything from his time in the White House to his clear determination to gut Roe v Wade. Kavanaugh is unfit to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, or any federal bench. He should withdraw his nomination to the Court and resign from U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

“I am grateful to Senator Sherrod Brown for his opposition to this nomination, and call on Senator Rob Portman to do the same. I believe survivors. Do you Senator Portman?”
